What Happens in the First 48 Hours After Signing with Our Personal Injury Law Firm

So, you’ve just signed with Brooks Injury Law.

We know what you’re probably thinking – Now what?

What should I be doing?

Who do I call?

Who do I give my treatments update to, and when?

How long will all this take?

We know that stepping into legal action can feel overwhelming, but rest assured, our team is here to guide you through every step of the process. To give you an idea of what happens next, here’s a breakdown of what we’ll do in the first 48 hours after you officially become our client.

Spoiler: We hit the ground running.

Step 1: Setting Up Your File

Once you’ve signed the necessary paperwork, our intake specialist gets to work right away. One of the first things we do is create your official case file. This includes gathering all the essential information about your injury and accident. Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it! Some of the key documents we’ll need from you include:

  • Accident Reports (police reports, incident reports)
  • Medical Records (initial treatment, ER visits, etc.)
  • Insurance Information (both yours and any other parties involved)
  • Photos or Videos of the Accident and Injuries
  • Witness Information (if applicable)

If you have any bills or other documents that you think are important, go ahead and send them to us too! Our intake team will make sure that we have everything needed to get a clear picture of what happened.

Step 2: A Quick Chat with Your Attorney

Shortly after setting up your file, we’ll schedule a call between you and your attorney team. This is your chance to discuss the details of your case and ask any initial questions. Your attorney will want to hear details about your injuries and the effect this has had on your life. They will go over the facts, and set expectations for what the legal process looks like moving forward. We’ll also explain the next steps so you know what to expect and how we’ll be fighting for you every step of the way.

Step 3: Contacting Insurance Companies

Within the first 48 hours, our team will need to gather all the relevant claim information for the insurance companies involved. This will help us do two things: it puts the insurance companies on notice that you’ve retained a lawyer, and it stops them from contacting you directly. From this point on, you won’t have to deal with any insurance adjusters—we take care of that for you!

Step 4: Gathering Evidence

While we wait on documents from you, our team will start gathering evidence that will support your case. This can include requesting video footage of the accident (like traffic camera footage), doing open record requests with relevant police departments, inspecting vehicles or businesses, and obtaining any available records from hospitals, doctors, and other medical providers. The sooner we can gather this information, the stronger your case will be.

Step 5: Medical Treatment Tracking

If you’re still receiving treatment for your injuries, don’t worry. Your health is our number one concern, and you getting the treatment you need is the most important part of your case. We’ll keep track of your medical bills and records to ensure they’re included in your case for maximum compensation.

Step 6: Getting Ready for Action

By the time the first 48 hours have passed, your case file is organized, your attorney is looped in, and we’re working to notify all necessary parties that you’re officially represented by us. From there, we’ll continue to gather any additional documents and information needed to build a rock-solid case on your behalf. You’ll always know what’s going on, and our team will be in touch with updates regularly.

We hope this gives you a clear picture of what happens once you sign with us. Our goal is to make the legal process as smooth and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on healing. If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us—we’re here to help!
